I have a wide range of interests and can never stop learning. Above all, I love building and creating things, whether digital or physical.
My path so far has been anything but straight. I have worked as a trail builder, mountain farmer, butcher, nursing assistant, ski instructor, ski technician, carpenter, and upholsterer. One reason for this breadth is my civilian service in Switzerland: having consciously chosen civilian service over the military, I had a large number of service days to complete. I used that opportunity to learn as many different crafts as possible and work abroad. For five years, I worked as an orthopedic technician, custom-crafting prosthetics, orthotics, and mobility aids using carbon fiber, leather, metal, electronics, and plastics. In Switzerland, this was cutting-edge high-tech with electronic and bionic systems. For six months, I worked in India under very basic conditions, using whatever materials were at hand. It was a versatile, creative field that laid my craft foundation.
Today, my passion is product design. I studied medical informatics in Switzerland and Mexico and developed an early fascination with artificial intelligence and beautiful, functional design. In my bachelor's thesis, I developed a machine learning model for brain surgery together with Bern University Hospital (Inselspital). It received the award for the best bachelor's thesis in Digital Health across Europe, competing against students from top universities like Harvard. Refining and perfecting a product down to the finest detail is what truly drives me. Seeing people love a product and having it genuinely improve their lives makes me deeply happy. At the end of the day, you hold something meaningful in your hands, physically or digitally.
A major highlight was the wheelchair exoskeleton project with robotic walking capability, which won silver at Cybathlon 2024. The project received widespread media attention and was featured on national television. As a kid, I always dreamed of being in the Guinness World Records, and now we more or less accidentally ended up in it: my elbow is in the book, right next to the exoskeleton. Who would have thought?
I am grateful for everything I've been able to experience and learn. I don't believe in sticking to just one narrow path. Quite the opposite: all these diverse experiences now converge, bringing immense value especially when working on long-term projects.
I love learning in my free time as well. Once, I completely overhauled the entire garden around my house, turned it all into vegetable beds, and cultivated over 200 rare and unusual varieties. I also designed and built a subterranean greenhouse that blends seamlessly into the landscape and stays well-insulated through winter. My partner and I produced so much surplus vegetables that we even started selling them. To me, that is the greatest luxury one can have—though you have to earn it.
Outdoors, you'll most often find me in the air, on mountains, or on water: paragliding in Switzerland and Argentina, climbing, surfing, or packrafting down rivers. But nothing gives me a greater sense of freedom than bicycles. Even as a kid, I rode everywhere—during two meters of fresh snow, I was the only one cycling to school. On bikepacking trips, I spent months touring Mexico and the Balkans with a tent and hammock. That freedom and connection to nature is hard to put into words—you have to experience it. In winter, I ski and love teaching others.
Why this website? Here, I share knowledge and insights where there might not be much information online yet, and showcase what I'm currently working on. A bit of self-promotion and showcasing my projects is naturally part of it too. Who knows—maybe new collaborations and ventures will come out of it.
